A Brief History
The parish community of Triumph of the Cross is a gathering of Catholic individuals and families in the City of Steubenville, Ohio, who came together when six separate parishes were closed on June 8, 2008. Our members are the former members of Holy Name, Holy Rosary, St. Anthony, St. Pius X, St. Stanislaus and Servants of Christ the King Parishes. We are the Cathedral Parish of the Diocese of Steubenville, but have been worshiping and meeting at Holy Rosary Church while Holy Name Cathedral is closed for renovation and repairs.
Triumph of the Cross Parish was formally established in 2005, and Fr. Tim McGuire was our founding Pastor. During the initial years, plans were being developed for a new Cathedral by a group of people from the six separate parishes. The proposed Cathedral would have enough space to accommodate the members of the six parishes forming Triumph of the Cross Parish. The Cathedral plans, however, were put on hold because of costs.
As noted above, the six parishes were closed in 2008, and Fr. Thomas Nau became Pastor on July 1, 2008. Our Parochial Vicar since 2016 is Fr. Ryan Gray. Our previous Parochial Vicars have been Fr. Mark Moore and Fr. Bradley Greer.
